VACANCY

Data Consultant

Our first hire. We care more about how you think and work than which tools you already know — you’ll help shape Datavore, not just its projects.

Junior–mediorEindhoven32–40 hoursPermanent

We’re a two-person data consultancy hiring our first colleague. You won’t slot into a machine that already runs — you’ll help build how Datavore works, grows, and delivers. Which is why we care more about how you think than the exact tools on your CV. Skills we can teach; character we can’t. We’re hiring at junior to medior level. This role is 32–40 hours a week. If you’re looking for something alongside your studies, the student route on our careers page is the better fit.

Who we’re looking for

  • Entrepreneurial ownership

You see what needs doing and you do it, without waiting to be told. You build the firm, not just the projects.

  • Feedback as fuel

You give honest feedback and take it just as well, without getting defensive. It’s how you grow, and how we grow as a firm.

  • Client partnership with backbone

You listen properly, understand what a client actually needs, and push back — respectfully — when they’re heading the wrong way.

What you’ll do

  1. Map

Where the data lives, how the systems actually talk to each other, and where it breaks.

    • Interview the people who use the data, and find where it actually hurts.

    • Go into the data itself: the gaps, the duplicates, the definitions that don’t agree.

  2. Structure

A foundation people can genuinely trust and build on, with quality you can rely on.

    • Build the ETL pipelines that turn scattered source systems into something dependable.

    • Develop the data-quality framework that catches problems before a report does.

  3. Translate

The models, dashboards, and tools that get used, rather than left in a drawer.

    • Model what happens under different choices — simulation, not just a picture of the past.

    • Build the one screen a team steers by, and make sure they can read it without you.

Where you’ll work

A mix of the three: days together in our Eindhoven office, days at the client, and days from home. Which mix depends on the engagement and on the week, and we work that out together rather than fixing it in advance.

This job isn’t for everyone

Everything above is the upside, and it’s real. So is this. We’d rather you weighed it now than found out in month two.

  • There’s no senior engineer above you to escalate to. When something is genuinely hard, it’s you, us, and whatever we can work out between us.

  • There’s no playbook yet. A lot of how Datavore works is still being decided — which means you’ll be deciding some of it, including the parts nobody has thought about.

  • You’ll be in front of clients early, sometimes before you feel ready. We’ll back you, but we can’t hide you behind a delivery team, because there isn’t one.

  • We’re small. That’s the opportunity and it’s also the risk, and you should weigh both honestly before you say yes.

What you’ll need

SQL and Python at working level.

You can write a query that joins two tables, groups and filters it, and a Python script that reads and reshapes data — and explain what each one does and why you solved it that way.

That’s the floor. Everything below helps, and we’ll teach you the rest.

What helps (but isn’t required)

  • Some experience with data platforms, warehousing, or dashboarding

  • An eye for turning messy data into something clean and usable

Coming in at medior level? We’ll also look for one data project you’ve run end to end, with a real client or stakeholder — from the question to the delivered result.

One hard requirement: Dutch at C1 level. Most of our client work happens in Dutch, with clients who expect to be spoken to in their own language.

What we offer

  • 25 days and the essentials

25 holidays a year on a full week, travel expenses covered, and lunch on us.

  • €2,500 and 5 days a year

A real learning budget, with certification we actually pay for — not “opportunities to develop”.

  • A culture you help build

Friday afternoon drinks, events worth turning up for — and, because we’re still early, a real say in what the rest of it becomes.

  • The whole job, not a slice

No account manager between you and the client, no ticket queue. You’re there from the first conversation to the handover, and you see how a whole business works — not one system inside it.

What it pays

We’ll send you our salary range before you meet us, without you having to ask, and before there’s any negotiation. We won’t ask what you earn now or what you earned before — what we offer depends on the job and on where you come in, not on your last payslip. The role is open at junior and medior level, so we’d rather place you in the range properly than have you work out which end you’re at from an advert.

How to apply

No CV needed. Send us a short intro about who you are and what you’ve done, and a link to your LinkedIn or GitHub if you have one — plus your answer to one question.

Tell us about a moment you saw something wasn’t working — and what you did about it.

That’s it. We read every one. And we reply to everyone within five working days — including when it’s a no.

Questions but not ready to apply? Mail us anyway — that’s not a lesser version of applying.

Who you’d work with

Datavore is small because we’re early, not because we plan to stay that way — the ambitions are a good deal bigger than the headcount. That’s the offer: what you build shapes the company, not just the project it was built for, and there’s a great deal still to decide. The ground floor, while there still is one.
